A novel coronavirus was identified in late 2019 and rapidly spread resulting in a pandemic. The World Health Organization designated the disease term COVID-19. The virus that causes COVID-19 is referred to as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The major morbidity and mortality from COVID-19 is largely due to acute viral pneumonitis that evolves to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). While the world overwhelmingly focused on prevention of the virus and taking care of the critically ill, case reports have noted prolonged delays in post-viral recovery. The press is now referring to people with prolonged illness as “long haulers.” A report from Italy that followed patients hospitalized for COVID-19 found that 87% reported persistent symptoms lasting longer than 60 days. There is also a new MMWR report about prolonged illness after COVID19 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And recently, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, stated during a COVID-19 press conference that “there are a considerable number of individuals who have a post-viral syndrome that are highly suggestive of myalgic encephalomyelitis and chronic fatigue syndrome.”

The goal of this FREE CME webinar is to educate clinicians about post-viral sequelae and ME/CFS as an important clinical and public health problem and demonstrate that patients with post-viral syndrome and ME/CFS have a serious, debilitating illness warranting compassionate clinical care.

Thanks to #MEAction New York, New York State Department of Health Clinical Education Initiative and Mt. Sinai Institute for Advanced Medicine. Please spread the word to clinicians everywhere!

The webinar is OPEN to any medical provider. They don’t have to be in NYC or New York State. Please note, this seminar is ONLY for clinicians. Please do not register if you are not a clinician.
