Send your shoes to #MillionsMissing by Thursday

#MillionsMissing is calling for some literal boots on the ground, and the deadline is fast approaching.  If you want your shoes to be displayed at the U.S. main protest in Washington D.C., your shoes must be postmarked no later than May 12. If you send your shoes past this date, they may be used for future protests, but we cannot guarantee that they will arrive in time to be used on May 25.

There is still plenty of time for you to participate; if you’re worried about getting to a post office, you can order an inexpensive pair of shoes online and simply send them directly to our P.O. Box.  This will get the shoes to us swiftly.
If you live abroad, it is easy to register for an account on the U.S. Amazon site or on Ebay and list our P.O. Box as your mailing address.
Remember to:

  1. Fill out this form first.
  2. Then, send your shoes to:

Paige Maxon

P.O. Box 26051

Winston Salem, NC, 27114

Whatever name you enter into the Google form linked above should appear somewhere in the package you send us so that we can match the data – either enclosed in a sheet of paper with the form, or if ordering directly from Ebay or Amazon, somewhere in the return address or order information.

During the protest, we will post images of these shoes to #MEAction’s social media account using the #MillionsMissing hashtag, so patients can see that they are being represented during the demonstration.
Shoes cannot be returned. After the protest, we will either donate all shoes to a local charity or keep them for a future installation.

  1. Hi there,
Thank you SO much for organising this! As a bedbound patient I’m thrilled to see this being organised!
The form to fill out prior to sending shoes is confusing – I”m not sure it’s working. It says:
Go to this link (which is a dead link)
Untitled Title (not sure what I”m meant to type hear)
When I click next nothing happens.

  2. The link on this page works.
    http://millionsmissing.meaction.net/virtual/
The form asks for what I am missing, gives a small space for an answer, and the example, “I am missing my career, I am missing the beach”. To answer the question about what I am missing, I need a paragraph. Can I submit a paragraph? What are you looking for? How are you going to use this?
Also, do I need to submit may last name, etc. or can I fill out the form in a way that’s best for me as long as I put the same information in the box with the shoes? Thanks.

    1. For the “I am missing…” I think it has the most impact if you pick one thing that you’re missing most, or the thing that you are missing that you think will strike people. You absolutely can use any name you like; I’d put Jaime S., myself. People might argue it has more impact if you use your full name, but that dot means readers can’t associate the illness with a particular culture or subgroup, it’s all of us no matter race, color, or gender. The universality is meaningful to me, personally.
That said, do your best to help us connect your shoes to your statement. If you don’t want to use your last name, I’d recommend printing out what you called yourself AND your statement about what you’re missing, and sticking that in the shoebox. 🙂

  3. I don’t know where to find the forms I filled out to print them out. I’m putting our names inside the shoes. Is that sufficient for you to connect the forms with the names?
