On Thursday afternoon, 24th January, MPs from all parties will be debating a motion put forward by Carol Monaghan MP in the House of Commons. The motion covers biomedical research funding, the suspension of GET and CBT, updated training for medical professionals and unjustified child protection procedures.

To reach a wider audience and garner more press attention, join us in demonstrating our support for the motion across social media on the day of the debate.

Remember to urge your MP to attend first

Virtual Demonstration Details

When: From 11am GMT Thursday 24th January

Who: Everyone from across the globe is welcome to join the virtual demonstration via social media!

How:

1. Take a photo of yourself holding a sign supporting the ME debate

It could say:

  • Stop CBT and GET now!
  • Update professional training on ME
  • Stop unjustified child protection proceedings against ME

Always remember to include the hashtag #MEdebate

2. Post the photo to social media using the hashtag #MEdebate

Write a little more about why the ME debate motion is important to you. For example:

– Facebook:

“Today MPs are debating Carol Monaghan’s motion on ME in a historic House of Commons debate. One of the issues the motion highlights is current trends of subjecting ME families to unjustified child protection procedures.

This cruel and harmful practice cannot be allowed to continue. Join me in supporting the #MEdebate motion by sharing this post.

#MillionsMissing #pwME #MyalgicE”

– On Twitter tag @MattHancock the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care:

“I’m virtually demonstrating my support for the #MEdebate @MattHancock.

#pwME deserve

#ScienceNotStigma

#CanYouSeeMEnow”

3. Ask your friends and family to get involved

Encourage your family or friends to hold up a sign and have their photo taken too. It could even explain how ME impacts their life as well. For example:

“ME stole my partner’s energy, fund biomedical research now”

“Fund ME research so I can play with mum outside again”.

Then post on social media using the hashtag #MEdebate, and tag @MattHancock if you’re on Twitter.
